EP 75: Stop Feeling Guilty for Doing Nothing: How Gratitude Changes Everything!
Ever felt guilty for resting or struggled to acknowledge your own progress? In this uplifting episode of Sew Flipping Extra, I dive deep into why feeling good about doing absolutely nothing is essential for your mental and emotional well-being. Reflecting on powerful lockdown lessons, I reminds us of the beauty in stillness and the importance of celebrating our wins—big or small.
I open up about her own journey with gratitude and manifestation, sharing personal breakthroughs from my recent Ideal Home Show presentation, and explains how confidence grows from simply showing up as your authentic self. I also explore the damaging impact of comparison and how focusing on what feels good can dramatically transform your mindset and attract greater opportunities.
Tune in to discover how a simple shift towards gratitude can amplify joy, success, and fulfillment in your life. And remember: it’s absolutely okay—and necessary—to feel great about doing nothing!

Don't feel bad for feeling great for doing nothing.
Speaker 1:Let me say that again Don't feel bad for feeling great for doing nothing. Let me tell you where this saying comes from. I love Facebook for this one reason. Facebook memories is a joy, and on this day in 2020, whenever we went into lockdown, I think it was like we had just gone into lockdown. What are we in March? Okay, so we had just gone into lockdown and Facebook reminds me that I've done the ting. I've been doing this thing for a while and it makes me feel good, because when I talk about the things that I want and people see stuff happening this is not overnight and I'm not even close, but to other people, they see what I'm doing and they're like wow, you're doing amazing, you're doing big things. That's phenomenal, that's massive. But on my side of it, sometimes it takes me a while to to be in gratitude state and that sounds crazy coming from me, because I feel like I live in gratitude, but I'm my worst critic. I'm like, oh, I need to do this, I need to do that, but babes, you've been doing the thing. So let me jump back in.
Speaker 1:During lockdown, there's a lot of things I started doing, and one of them was my I mean, I guess I could say it was my online podcast. It wasn't a podcast, I didn't give it the name of a podcast, but I was doing my videos. I really wanted to do the YouTube and start creating content on there and doing my videos, and I had a segment that was called talks with dorks. So I so I had Flip it, flip it Thursdays or Flip it Fridays, I think it was. I had Talks with Dorks. There's a few other things that I had, and on this particular episode that was this day, like what four years ago, I was talking about how lockdown brought people to a place of stillness, and there were some people that had been praying for some stillness in their life. There was people that had been praying for a break. They just wanted to take a break, but they couldn't afford to take a break or they didn't like their manager and they wanted to think about starting their new business. And lockdown allowed so many people to do that. Lockdown allowed people that just didn't even know what they were doing in their life to stop and pause. And in the same episode I also do speak about let's not forget that so many things happened to so many people and so many people's families where they lost people during this time. But for a lot of people, it was the stillness that they had asked for and needed and that's where that saying of if that's all you need to do is just be still, then by golly be still and enjoy it and don't feel bad for doing nothing and feeling great about it. And when I heard that again today, I was like, oh God damn, danny Dorks, I can come up with the phrases honestly, and it was just a reminder.
Speaker 1:There was a couple of reminders in watching this episode. They weren't long episodes, I think it was about six, six minutes or something. But keep doing what you're doing, because even the way I talk in this episode and the way I I start, start my podcast and my intros and everything I've been doing, I've been doing my thing and I love it and I enjoy it. Don't stop doing what you're doing because you're it's gonna grow. You know the confidence grows. There's so many. Oh, I had the Idol Home Show today and I really want to get on to talk about that, about confidence. Confidence is such a beautiful thing and when you get to record yourself in a place and look back on your growth. It is such a beautiful thing.
Speaker 1:With that said, let's start this episode. Let me do my intro. Hi guys, welcome to another episode of the so Flippin' Extra podcast, a platform for me to express, explore and connect and be so flippin' extra why, I hear you ask. Well, that's what brings me joy. So, without further ado, let's get into this episode and let's just remind you of how powerful you are, just in case you needed a reminder.
Speaker 1:So the question that I want you guys to think about today is what is it that you've wished for that you've received? Remember, a few weeks ago we spoke about that the to done list to done, the to done list. What is it? What is on your to done list that you've done? What is it that you've prayed for, you've asked the universe for, or you've asked your god for, or you've just asked out loud, or you've just said to yourself the things that you really want to do and it's come true. Let's take a moment to think about them things, because I know for me personally, I've had a few of them come through and I got a reminder of it, and I love my friends for the way they hold me accountable for the for the shit that I say and the shit that I talk and the way I put myself down sometimes, like when I think I'm not doing enough.
Speaker 1:And I had said something this week and my friend was like, do you hear yourself? Because I hear you. And you like, I just got off the phone call, not just, but like early that morning we were still in the morning I'd had a phone call with someone about some presenting work that I'm going to be doing in the autumn. And then I was like saying to myself I was talking out loud to myself and I was saying, oh, I don't even want to do that anyway, I just want to do presenting. And so he was like, like do you realize the things that you're like? You're getting it? He said when I first met you, you weren't doing any of this. It might have been something that you wanted, but you're getting it. He said when I first met you, you weren't doing any of this. It might have been something that you wanted, but you weren't doing it. And now you're doing it and you're getting it, and you're getting the jobs and you're getting the bookings, and you're still complaining about it.
Speaker 1:And I said I cried, I'm not even gonna lie. I cried. I'm such a baby, but I cried, I got emotional because it's so true and you need them, people that remind you of how powerful you are, and you need them, people to remind you that you are doing it. You're doing the thing that you asked to do and you're doing it great and you're doing it amazing. And just because I tell you why, I tell you why sometimes I'm not living in gratitude. It doesn't look the way I want it to look or it doesn't feel the way. Financially, it's not giving what I want it to give. There's parts of it that are happening and then parts of it that are not, and that's a me thing, because everything it's moving that's all you need to see is that it's moving. You need to see something's happening, to know that you're on the right path, right? Yeah, I think so. And pay attention to what feels good. It's all part of manifestation. Sometimes I need those reminders of manifestation what feels good.
Speaker 1:Too often we focus on what doesn't feel good and law of attraction the way it works is what you focus on. What doesn't feel good and law of attraction the way it works is what you focus on is what you receive. So if we spend all the time focusing on the thing that we wanted, that we're receiving, but the lack of that it's given, we're gonna get more. Lack of like. Make it make sense. It's making sense. So the message for me and what if you're in the same position as me, maybe and this sounds familiar to you focus on the fact that it's working. Focus on the fact that something is happening, something is giving, something is changing. The conversations are happening. Where were you last year? What did you ask for last year that this year you're getting it? And just because it might not be as big as you wanted it to be, there's movement. Focus on the movement, focus on receiving more of that movement, because when you focus on what feels good, you get more of what feels good, and that feels amazing. That feels so good. Just last week, the conversations that I had oh, it's a good year already, it's a flipping good year already. Focus on that Instead of, for me, focusing on oh, but it's not that yet, and it's not that yet.
Speaker 1:The beginning of the year one of the first things I said I made I just said that I wanted to do was travel for work. February, I had my first job, january, I got my call to say that I was booked to do a job outside of the UK, not the UK, sorry. Well, yeah, yeah, yeah, outside of the UK, which is the Belgium trip. I went to that like me saying, oh, but it's not the Caribbean. No, you asked. You said you wanted to travel for work. You wanted to get paid to travel for work. Babes, you got paid to travel for work. Just because I then go online and compare comparison is the thief of joy, because someone else is getting sent to America and someone else is getting sent to LA and someone else is getting sent to Barbados. Oh, stop it. Your first job was Belgium.
Speaker 1:Calm down, like it's happening, it's moving and it feels absolutely amazing and I hope this rings. I really, really hope this. This rings a bell, not because I want you to feel as shit as I feel when I'm not in a state of gratitude, but just because I'm hoping the words that are coming out of my mouth makes you think, absolutely yes, she's right, and that you can change your thoughts and your mindsets so that we can just start manifesting more good things, because we're focusing on the fact that, yeah, it happened and it feels good over. Well, when's the next one coming? I always try and think of a name to call you. Are you the extras? Are you the dorks? I don't know, but I think I like dorks because dorks is a name of endearment. My older sister was the first person I used to call dork to, and so whenever she calls I'm like hey, dork. So calling you guys my dork is like calling you my family, so you are my dorks, but I have my dorks that listen every week.
Speaker 1:So to everyone there is an episode missing. What happened is last week was such a busy week. Obviously I had the Glow Mama Awards and I also had a carnival launch. Glow Mama was on Saturday, the launch was on Sunday and I just was so knackered, so tired couldn't find any time to record the episode, and then I ended up doing it midweek and then it was then finding time to edit the episode. So I have done an episode where I did break down Glow Mama and how that was and everything, and I am going to post that. So probably midweek I might have like a Wednesday episode that goes out, just so that the catch-up is done. So I'm not going to mention anything about it here, but what has happened this week is that I have had the Idol Home Show, and that was today, and I feel really bad now because last week I would have mentioned that the Idol Home Show was coming, so anyone that listens you guys would have been up to date. It was coming if you wanted to calm the code, but it also was in the week before. But, yeah, it was such a great session. So usually I've done other years, I've done Idol Home Show for a few days, but this year I was only booked for one day, which is amazing for me, because sometimes it's one of them ones where if you missed it, you missed it.
Speaker 1:There needs to be an urgency for people to come and hear my talks, because my talks are popping and I'm so proud of me, I'm so proud of what I did today on stage. The stage has moved and so there's a much bigger foot flow of people, so I had the audience, was audience in, it was popping and my talk was about repairing your clothes, the power of repair and how repairing your clothes not only will save our planet but save your pocket. I'm out here to save you guys money and it's so funny because, obviously, as someone who repairs clothes for people. That's where I get money from. I get money from that. So when I'm telling people, giving them hacks and tips and tricks on how to repair their own clothes, it's like you're taking money out of your pocket.
Speaker 1:But the real is that I know that if more people can repair their own clothes, there are more clothes or, sorry, there are less clothes that are then going to end up in landfill, and landfill scares me more and I think it's more detrimental to the world than me getting a couple of repairs like, if I'm being honest, I'd rather be more detrimental to the world than me getting a couple of repairs Like, if I'm being honest, I'd rather be jetting around the world speaking on stages and presenting and hosting shows than repairing you lots of clothes. I'd rather teach you how to do it yourself, if I'm being 100 percent honest. So I am going to be doing a lot more content around repairing and showing you guys real, simple tips and tricks. As I stood on stage, I realised how simple all of these are and everyone knows not everyone knows, but a lot of people know. They've heard of these things. They know a little bit, but it's just reminding people and I think where I've been slowing giving this information is because I feel like no one's interested.
Speaker 1:But my audience today showed me that people are interested and they do want to know and they're still wowed by some, by simple things of how to repair your clothes, and the key message that I wanted to get to everyone across is buy stuff that you love. Buy clothes and items and see things in shops and buy it because you love it, not because you need it for a night out. But if you buy things because you love them, you have more of an urgency and more of a desire to repair them when something goes wrong. I love visual mending and for someone if it's someone who's less confident or less skilled on repairing a lot of the time, it's just easier to do visible mending, and the only person that thinks it's going to look crappy and judge you might be someone close to you, because one lady asked me this question today and she said how her mum would say oh, why does it look like that?
Speaker 1:But the biggest judge we we are our own biggest critic. So we're gonna look at and be like, oh, it doesn't look good enough. But if you get used to the fact of it looks however it looks, and enjoy wearing it because you enjoy wearing it. And if you can't, if you want it to look professional, then yeah, take it to a professional. But the joy that you can't. If you want it to look professional, then yeah, take it to a professional. But the joy that you can get doing it yourself and doing like something really cool and groovy on it, and then someone saying, well, I love that and you're like, I did that, I did that myself. It feels absolutely amazing. One workshop I done a couple of weeks ago we took a picture and done a video and I got everyone to say I made it. Because that statement feels phenomenal, one of the first times where I wore something that I'd made and someone said, wow, that is awesome, where'd you get that? And I'm like I made it what I want everyone to feel this way. So now at my workshops I get people to say I made it, when they've absolutely upcycled something that they did.
Speaker 1:But yeah, back to Idol Home Show. It was amazing and I brought out the extra mic, obviously, and I asked people what their biggest takeaway was from the show, from my talk, and even that was amazing, like just it. Let me know that what I'm doing is actually really powerful and for that reason, I'm just going to continue doing it. I'm going to do it bigger, badder and better every single year, and this being my third year at the Idol Home Show, I feel like it actually was my best performance me personally, within myself, like just what I was talking about. I really enjoyed what I was talking about, and it was also less about me as the master upcycler, but but more what I can do for you and just my confidence. This is what I was mentioning earlier my confidence. It's just changed.
Speaker 1:Like, when I jump on the stage, you get me and you get my personality. I bring it all to the stage and I leave it on the stage and you are left with a piece of me. You are not left with a robot who is just regurgitating some notes that I remembered and wrote down. I can't write shit down. I can't write my notes down because I'm never going to remember them. I'm not going to remember them and then all I'm going to do is be like oh man, I didn't say this and I didn't say that, so I just flow.
Speaker 1:Whenever I'm on stage, I go with flow if I'm on a panel or I'm on a talk and they send over the questions. Most time I don't read the questions because I'm like if I read the questions, I I'll practice my answer and then if I practice my answer and I don't say what was part of my answer, I feel like I failed. So why feel like that way? Just flow, just just flow. If you forget your words or you forget midway what you was even talking about, because, yeah, that happens, I let everyone know, guys, I forgot what I was talking about, what was I saying. Oh, that's the best feeling in the world.
Speaker 1:And just being like I I have ADHD and I'm most likely I could forget what I'm talking about, I could go off script, pull me back in, help me guys, work with me. We're in this together. This is you, you lot's show. So, yeah, but I really enjoyed it. I had a great time and yeah, yeah, hopefully I'll be back next year. During the rest of the year I will have a lot of shows happening. I'm pretty pretty sure about that.
Speaker 1:So, yeah, with that said, let's, let's wrap it up, because it is late and it has been a great week. How do I close my show? Peace out, that's it. Peace out a town down west side is the best side. Do I believe that? I'm not sure, matter of fact, most of the time I don't. But what I do know is, wherever I'm at the vibes, at whatever stage I'm talking on, I bring the energy I bring you me. You are going to have a good time, you're going to have an amazing time. And again, listen, if you just need a break, baby, take your break. Take your break, take your time out and do not feel bad for feeling great for doing absolutely nothing. The more you can do absolutely nothing and find yourself and breathe and relax, the more you will feel better about yourself. And we've got to put ourselves first. We've got to make sure we're sorted. We've got to make sure we're feeling good, because the more we do that for ourselves, the more we can fill other people's cups. I love you guys. Bye.
