So the TikTok ban in the States has officially happened. There is no TikTok in the US. It's been taken away as far as I know. But there is a lesson that we can all learn from this and when it was first happening I just thought it didn't really affect us, but it absolutely does. And the lesson that we need to learn from this ban is that we cannot put all our eggs in one basket. You cannot put all our eggs in one basket. You cannot put all your eggs in one basket and count on just one source of income or one place of you know traction for your business.
Speaker 1:And it was such a big eye opener for me because over the last I'd say over the last week, I've really noticed and really paid attention. Before that I was just like, okay, cool, whatever. I didn't really think it was going to happen. I just thought they was just talking, to be honest. And, yeah, I've noticed. In just this morning scrolling on TikTok, I've noticed already how much my feed has changed. I'm not gonna lie, I'm a, I'm a US TikToker. I'm here for the, I'm here for the American talk. Like they're just very entertaining and I think we all know that they're so cheesy and so much more extra than UK. So I'm very intrigued to see how, if TikTok can hold up by itself without the States and just there, just there, like, whereas I think a lot of UK people relied on TikTok for their entertainment, so we we had our eggs in that basket of entertainment. I wasn't heavily on TikTok but I'd say recently I've found like my little shows on there, stuff country way skits. I'm gonna assume that anyone that listens to my podcast does not even have a clue about country way. But whatever, I do think it's going to be a very different place. But, like I mentioned earlier, I feel like it's going to hit so many Americans for even just their source of income, especially since lockdown. So many people found themselves, they discovered themselves, they discovered their talents via being on TikTok, whether that was was doing dances, being a dancer, being a comedian, storytelling, whatever, and they were getting paid good pay being on TikTok and yeah, I'm feeling it for them.
Speaker 1:Honestly, I didn't think I would. I didn't think I would, and it was one video that really made me understand what they're going through. And let me do my intro and we'll get into it. Hi guys, welcome to another episode of the so flipping extra podcast, a platform for me to express, explore and connect and be so flipping extra why I hear you ask with my little croaky voice is giving sexy. Well, because that's what brings me joy. So, without further ado, let me get into this podcast, into this episode, and, yeah, let's have a conversation. So a video came up on my feed during the week and it was a lady saying oh, wow, wow, wow, everyone's just going on about you know the TikTok ban, so what? Then it was a black guy who stitches it and he's just like very opposite to what she was saying and he basically broke it down and he was saying again what I mentioned earlier so many people, it is their income, this is their job, it is their, it is their life. Like, yeah, people can go out and get a job, even though a lot of jobs are getting taken over by computers, ai, whatever.
Speaker 1:You go into the supermarket, where's? I used to work in Asda, I used to work on the counter, but I also sometimes on the chicken counter, by the way, and I also used to sometimes do cashier. If they would no one cashiers, especially on the weekend, if they would call any trainees, any cashier trainers, to jump on tills and you go there. Now I'd say you have about on a busy day, maybe on a Sunday or a Saturday you have four people on tills. This is a mega store my Asda was one of the big ones big parkour store. You might have four people on tills. Then you have the till section area for the trolleys that has one or two people manning it and then you have the basket area do your own, where you again you have two people manning it. So where are the jobs? So again, let's get. Let me jump back in because you know, we know, we love a little, a little diversion.
Speaker 1:So yeah, she's saying just go out and get a job, but imagine being able to do what you love. Imagine being able to get paid to storytell, getting paid to make skits online, getting paid to sell shit. A TikTok shop I'm not gonna lie, it's giving, it's like a just a sheen, but whatever. But you get paid just to to sell stuff. You get paid. You get paid just to sit in your house and go live, and no matter what you think about people that just get, just sit in their house and go live, do their makeup, makeup and chat shit. They're getting paid to do that people are buying them gifts that they're converting into cash. Are you all right if you can get paid to do that? You can't knock someone else's hustle. If they are enjoying that and getting paid to do it, why not the hustle?
Speaker 1:So I hear, I hear them like if you don't have to come out of your house and go and work, for someone who literally can replace you at the drop of a pin because you're late for work, because the trains were delayed or maybe you did wake up late, maybe you went out last night and you woke up late you are replaceable in the workforce. You can have a parent pass away and go to your parents' funeral when they didn't give you time off. You are replaceable if they tell you that you can't go to your parents' funeral and, yes, that happens If you found your love on TikTok and all of us. I'm actually feeling emotional just saying it, and it's not even me. Wow, where did this empathy come from? I feel it for them. No, like honestly.
Speaker 1:Because did this empathy come from? I feel it for them, nah, like honestly, because you know I'm so fortunate. I do feel fortunate because I listen to people's conversations about how much they hate work and they're, oh, gotta go into the office. And, yeah, sometimes I'm like gotta go into my studio, but it's not the same. I'm probably, oh, but I have to go into my studio because it's fucking cold, more than anything. Um, I get to do what I love more often than not. You know, I might not enjoy doing alterations as much as I enjoy making myself an outfit to go to out or just to do a transition video, but I'm still doing what I love. I still found my love. So if all of a sudden, I don't know, there was just no upcycling, there was no like, someone took my voice away, they just took my voice away from me and said I can't like in that space, I can't do it.
Speaker 1:And a lot of I know a lot of them have two pages. They obviously have their TikTok page and their Insta page, but obviously this is where the fun, the money, comes into it, because Insta's not paying what TikTok was paying them. You go live on Insta. It's not the same as going live on TikTok, and I don't even go live on TikTok. Man needs to start going live on TikTok and getting paid. And do you know what?
Speaker 1:Something else I heard a lot of people saying was that this is time for the UK to stand up and shine. Shine where I'm not gonna lie, a lot of you lot are miserable. Whoever's listening to this probably is not one of the miserable ones because we keep it extra over here, but a lot of the UK are miserable. Who wants to watch that? They're just arguing in their lives, talking about who's paying the bill. Like, is it 50, 50? Like, who wants to watch that? I'm sorry, not me, like that guy. Oh my god, ace, who's doing that? Who's doing that? Nobody come on. You uk is like is you go and do something? You know how you get americans right and sometimes in like, the people in their videos are miserable as well, but they might be underground and they're. They're dancing and singing and everyone is excited not everyone, because some people are excited, I tell you when they do. When people busk on the trains over here, you act like you can't hear them there's.
Speaker 1:I remember I got on the train once and this guy was playing a guitar. Oh my god, he was fucking amazing. Was it a guitar or a violin or like whatever it was? He was absolutely amazing. And I was just there like intrigued, like oh my god. And when he finished I was like, yay, oh my god, was I the only one clapping? Was I actually the only one clapping and cheering? And only because I did, a few other people joined in. And then I was like. I went over to him after I was like, oh my god, that was so amazing, how long have you been playing? For Guy gave me, gave me his rundown of how long he's been playing, but he was homeless and that's all he had and I just thought, wow. I looked around at other people. I was like, did you not hear what I just heard? That was absolutely amazing. But the guy gave us a free concert.
Speaker 1:But whatever I digress, I don't really digress, it is what it is. But, yeah, tiktok's gone and, like I said, my little scroll this morning it was different, it wasn't as entertaining, um, so it'd be interesting to see over the, even just over this week, um, how it happens, because I will bounce, honestly, I'll bounce, um, I'll post, I'll probably post, you know, interact for a bit to see if I can keep my page going and see if it gets any better. But even just today, like I don't get much, you know, oh my God, lock Talk. Obviously I'm locked now and the American Lock Girlies, they're God they're giving. I don't know where the British Lock Girls are. I've got to find the British Lock Girls. That's what I've got to find because I need to, I need my inspiration because, like I said, the American Lock Girlies the finest fuck one and the Hair Be Hairin'. So, yeah, um, I'll keep you, I will keep you all updated with Lock Talk, though. So, yeah, um, lock Talk and whatever talk, see, I don't know, see, if the UK can be given Lock Talk, but anyone that's listening, are you guys? Have you guys noticed a ban? Are you, did you think about how it would affect? Because I know a lot of my, a lot of my listeners are UK based. Yeah, how do you? What do you think about it? Do you have an opinion about it? Do you just not care? Are you not even on TikTok anyway? So you're like, whatever, let me know. Okay, imagine this A couple of weeks ago, like first week of January, I was one of the shortlisted nominees for a Glow Mama Award, which is in the category of most ethical and sustainable mama.
Speaker 1:Imagine I have not mentioned this once on this podcast. I don't think I've mentioned it once in the last two weeks and tomorrow is the final day to vote. So if you do listen to this on Sunday or Monday and the the vote line hasn't closed, please do go and vote for me and I'll tell you why this is important to me. Last year I was in, but I was last year. I was nominated for the same award in the same category and I never won. And you know I did when I never won. I sat there and I cried. I sat in my seat and I cried and although I won't cry this year, I really would love to get an award for something that I do, and I do absolutely well, and I share it with people and I want everyone else to be able to do the same thing.
Speaker 1:I do for a couple reasons one, because I want to do it for you sometimes, and I just want you lot to have the ability to, to know how to create your own art and the things you want to wear, because it does cost money and, I feel like, because I want it to be so accessible for everyone. I don't really make the money that I should be making from upcycling. That's why I do workshops, because the brands they gotta pay. I want you lot to be able to do it and that's why I teach you how to do it. That's why I do workshops, that's why workshops are so big, big to me and that's why, going forward, I am going to be doing a lot more tutorials. I'm not just saying that because I want your votes, guys. I genuinely will be doing a lot more tutorials. I'm not just saying that because I want your votes, guys. I genuinely will be doing a lot more tutorials because, most importantly, and what was really my driving force when I don't even want to say started, because I've been upcycling for over 20 years, but even when I jumped online, it was the children, because I believe the children are the future.
Speaker 1:I believe we got to teach them well and we got to help them lead the way and we got to show them all the beauty that they possess inside. But on a real for real, for real, for real. It is about the children, because they are coming up and when I, when I really started showcasing my upcycling and and really making it a feature of what I was doing in my life, I remember hearing something and it said that and I've shared this on this podcast before it said that basically because of the way people were buying clothes and stuff and global global no, it wasn't just, it's not clothes, global warming is not just about clothes. But because of climate change and global warming, the world was going to end in like 2060 or something like that. It could could have been less, but it could be less now if it's not.
Speaker 1:But I felt like it was 2060 and I sat there and I thought about it and the math wasn't mapping for me or, like you know, it was a bit being a bit slow, but I was like I don't think I'm gonna be alive at that point, but my kids are gonna be parents by then and I will probably have grand, grand children. I might even have great grandchildren, even if I'm not on this earth, and the world is just gonna what? It's just gonna explode like I don't understand what's gonna happen. And that thought and then it made me think it's not even about us. We're not the change. We can't be the change. The children are going to be the change. They're the ones that have to change the world.
Speaker 1:And I love how many, how much young people I see really being creative and making stuff. I love when I see young people that are interested in upcycling. I love when I can do workshops for children and share that, because you lot are stubborn in our age that we are, we're stubborn. You know, back in my day, the amount of times I probably say back in my day to the kids in in a day, back in my day, everything's changed. That's what you would say like, oh, it's changed. But if it's normal to them to learn how to fix their clothes and learn how to remake their clothes and sew and all of that stuff, then it's normal.
Speaker 1:But they don't even teach it in school and that really pisses me off that they don't teach it in school anymore. Most of the people that I grew up with, we were taught we'd done sewing in school. It was a thing, it was a you know a curriculum. Even if it was just for one term, at least it was done. Do you know what I'm saying? Like now they don't even. A lot of schools don't even have sewing machines. There's only a few that do. Let me know if your child's school has sewing machines or if they teach sewing.
Speaker 1:And because of the way my brain works, I haven't done the things that I need to do. I haven't, you know, gotten to schools and been like, bring me in, even if it's once a term, and I just I just do school tours and go to different schools and, you know, do workshops with them and talk to them about why it's important. That's what I really, really want to do. I haven't done it. My brain works really slow, um, and yeah, it just is what it it is. There's so much that I want to do and the award is not. I'm not gonna have this award and all of a sudden be like I'm gonna change the world, world peace, but I'm gonna just keep doing what I'm doing and I have the plans to do more. And if you guys are following me on my page and you see what it is that I do and you love what it is that I do Sorry, I forgot that we were talking about my award as well yeah, vote for me, and you know you can even do is you can tell a friend to tell a friend to vote for me because I've been doing stuff and this is why I won't cry.
Speaker 1:This is why I won't cry. If I don't win this year, I will be disappointed, but I won't cry because I do it, because I love it and I'm gonna keep doing it because I love it, and I'm gonna keep doing it because there are people that love it. But, more importantly, I love it and it brings me joy and that's why I'm gonna keep doing it. So, yeah, absolutely definitely, vote for me. Tell your mum, tell your dad, tell your nana, tell your aunties and uncles. In it, it's quick's, quick, quick things. Vote for Dani. Who is she? Don't worry about who she is. You're going to learn today. Basically, right, I want to know how you guys have been getting on with being extra and showing off. Last year, I told you lot.
Speaker 1:The word of the year was show off. If you're showing off, you're doing something good, babes, because you're only showing off. If you're showing off, you're doing something good, babes, because you're only showing off if you're doing something good. No one calls you a show off if you, if. If it don't look good, let's just not get. Let's just not get that twisted.
Speaker 1:If it doesn't look good what you're doing, if they're not impressed with what you're doing in some small shape, way or form, then you're not, then they're not. They're not calling you a show, they're calling you an. I'm not gonna lie. They're calling you an idiot. They're like what is this dickhead doing? What is that dickhead over there doing? They might actually say that if they, if they think you're a show off as well, what is this fool doing? Look at them, can't even two-step properly. But if you're two-stepping in the name of love and you look good, they'll be like mm, mm-hmm, you know that, look, mm. That look side eyes. Oh man, this is why this is why I need to do a video. Guys, I'm gonna be jumping back on videos honestly, so you can, so you can see all the facial expression. But they'll give you that side eye. Look, slight little tilt, tilt of the nose up in the corner. Mm. Like the Callie, get out. I'm in the middle of my podcast. When I finish I've nearly finished a little the, the lips kind of turn up at the side and they go. The lips go like they push out slightly. If you can see my facial expressions, you know I'm doing and kind of look you up and down, show off, look at them showing off. That's because you're doing something good.
Speaker 1:So what have you done this week to show off more than you were? One of my um followers, one of my listeners, one of my regs, my regular degular listeners. I love you, baby. She messaged me this week and she was like your podcast. This week. She done the emoji fingers together Looks like a bunny rabbit sign Mwah, chef's kiss.
Speaker 1:She said she done was doing more this week. Oh, do you know? Let me read it. I hate to take the words out of people's mouths and muddle it all up. Ooh, that's a cute bit. No, don't get sidetracked. Don't get sidetracked. She said so. Firstly, she was just saying that Jim was suiting me Anyway. Then, firstly, she was just saying that jim was suiting me anyway. Then she said this week's podcast, the finger emoji sign been showing off more than usual. Yes, I love it. I love it. That's what I love to hear. That's what I love to hear. What? What did you do this week to show off more than usual? What are you doing this week to show off more? What's your thang that you're thang-a-lang in this week To show them?
Speaker 1:Let them call you a show-off. Let them say behind your back you think you're so nice? And then you know what you respond. Yes, baby, I do. I do think I'm so nice, because why wouldn't you, why wouldn't you think you're so nice? Me now get it. Me. Now get it. I don't get that phrase.
Speaker 1:She thinks she's so nice. She better, she better think she's so nice. Guys, listen, don't talk to me if you don't think you're too nice. How about that? How about that? Don't talk to me if you don't think you're too nice. How about that? How about that? Don't talk to me if you don't think you're too nice.
Speaker 1:Me and callie was out the other day and I said to her who do you think's cute? Are me or you? And she said me. And I said what? Don't let me ever hear that come out of your mouth ever again. You're way cuter than me. Think you're the best, because I don't tell you every day that you're beautiful.
Speaker 1:For you to tell someone else that they're more beautiful, right, ok, I know what you guys are going to think is giving big headed. Am I building my daughter to have a big head? No, I'm not. I'm building to her to have confidence in herself that I never had. I weren't brought up to have that, that level of confidence.
Speaker 1:She knows how to compliment other people because I teach her a balance. The same way, she sees me and hears me complimenting other women and complimenting men and telling people how amazing. They are all the time based on what they do, but also telling myself how amazing I am, like if you could see me right now. I am giving myself the love, like literally, I do it for myself. The same thing I do for you, the same thing I do for other people, the same way I make other people feel good is the same thing I do for myself. That's what I'm trying to teach her. You are beautiful. Like no one should be saying who's the prettiest out of all of you? Lot, but you should all think you're the prettiest. How about that? Anyways, guys, reach the end of this episode today.
Speaker 1:I got the point across the point. Point. The point is don't put all your eggs in one basket. No, whether it's what you're doing on social media, what you're doing in business, you can't just, you can't just be selling from one platform. If you're dating date innit, if you're dating date, because you can't put all your eggs in one basket. If you're going on Hinge or whatever Hinge Bumble, whatever they are I think there's new ones out there now and you start talking to someone on day one, keep your basket open, babes, because I mean, daniel could turn out to be a fucking psychopath babe after day three, but you've already closed your account because he's told you he was serious. Okay, have you even seen his toes yet? Be, be very weary, be very weary. Anyways, don't put your eggs in my basket.
Speaker 1:Vote for me, obviously, because I'm absolutely amazing at what I do and you guys love it obviously. Duh, why wouldn't you? And show the hell off man. Oh god, peace out. A town down west side is the best side. Do I believe that? Oh, not really. But what I do believe, no, no, no. What I know for absolutely sure is wherever I'm at the vibe's at, I tell you every week come on wherever I'm at the vibe's at and the vibe is here. The vibe is wherever I. If I'm over there, it's there. If I'm on west, it's over there in the west. If I'm in south, it's in south. Guys, I can't, I can't, I can't tell you anymore I can. The vibe is wherever I'm at. So make sure you come back next week so we can hold up a vibe and we can have a conversation, and let me know what you're doing. To be extra, let me know who your most extra favorite person is. I mean, you might say it's me, and that's fine as well. I love you guys. Bye.
